According to the hit TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, at 8:11pm on Tuesday 19th April, Skynet became self-aware. As the story goes - once Skynet becomes self-aware, the U.S military will attempt to shut it down and the network will, in turn, launch a nuclear attack upon the world.
John Connor, the future leader of the rebellion against the machines, would later send a Terminator back in time to protect his mother and his former self - setting the stage for the first two blockbuster Terminator movies.
